Disaster Awareness Week Winners

 

Disaster Awareness Week was held on 11-17 October 2009 and there were 3 exciting activities for Hawke's Bay students to become more aware and prepared. 

1. 'Get Ready Get Thru' poster competition

Student's were encouraged to design a poster to encourage their communities to be prepared for a Civil Defence emergency.  Congratulations to the winner Tori Aldridge, Age 15 (Akina School).

2. Action Reaction interactive website game

Student's could play the 'Action Reaction' Game, and those with the best scores in each age group would win some cool prizes.

3. 'Get Ready Get Thru' Activity

Students were asked to look in their local papers during the week of 11-17 October to find the "Get Ready Get Thru' Activity based on the 'What's the Plan Stan' to match the survival items.

5-8 years:
 1st prize: Xanthia Lecusanu-Burns (8) Hastings, 2nd prize: Kayden Chaffey (5) Hastings, 3rd prize: Jaime Kinder (5) Napier.
9-12 years: 1st prize: Riana Kingi (9) Wairoa, 2nd prize: Hannah Scott-Bennie (9) Waipukurau, 3rd prize: George Sutherland (12) Havelock North.
13-17 years: 1st prize: Samara-Daisy Carruthers (14) Waipukurau, 2nd prize: Ben Campbell (14) Napier, 3rd prize: Riley Thompson (13) Wairoa.
